Forty organizations in Hull will receive funding to establish Warm Spaces during the upcoming winter season. These venues include community centers, church halls, youth centers, and libraries. The initiative aims to provide warmth and support for individuals facing challenges related to energy costs, with some locations also offering social activities.
In addition to warmth, certain centers will offer guidance on managing expenses related to energy and food, according to Hull City Council. The primary funding source for this initiative is the Department for Work and Pensions’ Household Support Fund, with additional contributions from Hull-based company Ideal Heating.
Council leader Mike Ross emphasized the importance of having various locations throughout the city. He noted that local organizations are best positioned to design effective support schemes that address the needs of their communities. These initiatives may include not only Warm Spaces but also provisions for winter clothing and bedding, as well as home visits for individuals who may have difficulty accessing these resources.
A comprehensive list of the Warm Space locations will be made available on the Hull City Council website. This funding effort reflects a community response to ongoing cost-of-living challenges, aiming to alleviate some of the difficulties faced by residents during the winter months.
