A holiday club initiative for children in Cornwall has received a three-year extension, as announced by the government. The Time2Move programme aims to provide families with activities and nutritious food for children aged five to 16 years. It is fully funded for those who qualify for benefits-related free school meals.
The extension is part of a broader national investment of £600 million. Active Cornwall manages the programme, collaborating with various local providers. Since its inception in 2021, approximately £8 million has been allocated to this initiative.
Tim Marrion, partnership manager at Active Cornwall, noted that school holidays can present unique challenges for lower-income families, leading to issues such as social isolation, poor nutrition, and insufficient physical activity during these periods. He highlighted that the Time2Move programme supports over 12,000 children and their families annually, indicating that the funding extension is beneficial.
The Time2Move programme is fully funded by the Department for Education and is recognized across the UK as part of the Holiday Activities and Food Programme. How will the extended funding affect participation levels and the range of activities offered?
