At least 15 individuals, including four journalists affiliated with international media, have reportedly died following an Israeli strike on Nasser Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip. Among the deceased are a cameraman from Reuters and a freelance journalist for the Associated Press, along with a journalist from Al Jazeera and another from NBC.
The reports indicate that there were multiple strikes: an initial one resulted in casualties, followed by a second strike that occurred while rescue efforts were underway, as stated by the Hamas-run Civil Defence.
To date, the Israeli military and the office of the prime minister have not provided immediate statements regarding the incident. Visual reports from the scene depict significant damage and smoke emanating from the upper levels of the hospital, which is noted to be the main medical facility in southern Gaza. Eyewitness accounts describe a chaotic environment, with people running and shouting amid the sounds of ambulances.
In a video captured during the event, a doctor can be seen displaying bloodied clothing to journalists just prior to another strike occurring. Reuters confirmed that its cameraman, Husam al-Masri, was among those who lost their lives, while the Associated Press reported the death of Mariam Dagga, a 33-year-old freelance journalist. The other victims included Mohammed Salameh, a journalist for Al Jazeera, and Muath Abu Taha, a photographer working for NBC. The Civil Defence reported a total of 15 fatalities, which includes one of its members, according to the AFP news agency.
