A new “recycle and reuse” event, aimed at minimizing costs for families and preventing waste, has been introduced in Coleford, Gloucestershire. This initiative, known as the Forest Exchange, encourages community members to donate items they no longer need, enabling others to benefit from them.
The Forest Exchange project offers a variety of items at its “face-to-face freecycle” events, including books, clothing, and household goods. Initially launched as a community effort in nearby Lydney, the project has reportedly experienced growth over the past three years. Volunteer Louise Penny noted that the expansion into the Forest of Dean signifies the project’s success.
Previously operating under the name The Lydney Exchange, the initiative has extended its reach to Cinderford and Coleford. It now operates as the Forest Exchange. According to Penny, participants can freely take items they need and contribute items they can spare. She mentioned that while the selection is diverse, there is currently a shortage of men’s clothing, although there is an abundance of women’s clothing available.
The Forest Exchange event in Coleford garners support from local community leaders, including Pastor Sam Davis, and is set to be officially opened by Mayor Nick Penny. Scheduled for Saturday, the event will take place at Coleford Baptist Church from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM GMT. This initiative reflects ongoing efforts to foster community support and sustainable practices.
