The update was briefly outlined on a help page from Movies Anywhere, stating: “Effective 10/31/25, Google Play/YouTube will no longer participate in the Movies Anywhere program.” However, no specific reasons for this decision were provided. Users who had previously synced their Google Play accounts with Movies Anywhere can still access the movies that were already in their library, but they will be unable to add any new purchases from these platforms.
Neither Google nor Disney, the parent company of Movies Anywhere, has offered comments regarding this change. Movies Anywhere had enabled users to view movies purchased from Google Play or YouTube alongside content from other streaming services since its inception in 2017. This shift coincides with other notable changes, including the withdrawal of several Disney-owned channels from YouTube TV due to ongoing contract disputes.
Despite this development, users can continue to watch their Google Play movies directly through YouTube or Google TV. The situation raises questions about the implications for future partnerships and the overall state of digital content distribution.
