Ferrari has recently showcased key technological elements of its anticipated first electric vehicle, referred to as the Elettrica, at its Maranello headquarters. While no complete vehicle was presented, the manufacturer revealed details about the chassis and powertrain, including the battery pack and motors.

The finalized design of the Elettrica is expected to be unveiled next year, but Ferrari has yet to confirm an official name or vehicle form, with “Elettrica” currently serving as a possible placeholder. Speculation around the vehicle’s design includes possibilities of it being a shooting brake, wagon, or small crossover, influenced by camouflaged models observed in Italy.

Key specifications shared by Ferrari include a projected top speed of 193 mph, up to 1,000 horsepower in boost mode, and a range of 329 miles according to the WLTP system. Unlike many electric sports cars that simulate engine noise, Ferrari will amplify real vibrations from its powertrain by using an accelerometer to create a distinct sound experience through a custom algorithm.

The Elettrica will feature independent electric motors, rear-wheel steering, and an innovative active suspension system that eliminates the need for an anti-roll bar. As a four-door vehicle with multiple seating options, it is anticipated to share more characteristics with Ferrari’s Purosangue SUV than with its traditional sports cars, marking Ferrari’s first venture into four-door vehicles.

Targeting a high-end market, the Elettrica is expected to have a starting price around €500,000 (approximately $580,400). The vehicle’s chassis will comprise 75% recycled aluminum, and its fast-charging battery will be embedded in the vehicle’s floor to maintain a low center of gravity.

The battery will consist of 15 modules using nickel-manganese-cobalt chemistry, with a gross energy capacity of 122 kWh sourced from SK On, although assembly will occur in-house at Ferrari. While torque figures remain undisclosed, the Elettrica is said to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 2.5 seconds, with charging capabilities of up to 350 kW due to an 800-volt architecture. Notably, Ferrari has indicated a readiness to implement a system for simulating gear-shifting while actually managing regenerative braking.

The shift to electrification has been gradual for Ferrari, which has faced challenges in demand, delaying a second EV until 2028. In comparison, rival automaker Lamborghini has postponed its first electric vehicle launch until 2029.
