Family ask why killer has not been caught 12 months on

One year after Harshita Brella was found dead in London, her family in Delhi is seeking answers regarding the ongoing investigation into her murder. Harshita, a 24-year-old Indian national, was discovered in the trunk of a car in Ilford on November 14, 2024, one day after her family reported her missing. Police believe she was killed by her husband, Pankaj Lamba, in Corby, Northamptonshire. Lamba fled to India shortly after the incident and remains at large.

Lamba has been charged with murder, along with other offenses, including rape and coercive behavior. In September 2024, Harshita had filed a domestic abuse case against him, leading to his temporary arrest and subsequent release on bail with conditions to avoid contacting her. The domestic violence protection order expired in October, after which Harshita was killed.

Harshita’s family has expressed frustration with the pace of the investigation and the UK authorities’ response. They allege that the lack of urgency may be due to their status as foreign nationals. Four Northamptonshire Police officers are under investigation for their handling of Harshita’s domestic abuse report by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). The IOPC has completed its investigation and shared findings with the police, who have until mid-November to respond.

The Delhi Police are also involved, having acted on the basis of a dowry complaint filed by Harshita’s parents against Lamba and his family. They claim they have issued public notices offering rewards for information about Lamba. Meanwhile, family members believe he is in India, possibly receiving protection due to family connections within law enforcement.

As the investigation continues, Harshita’s family expresses ongoing grief and determination for justice, with her father frequently visiting police stations and courts. Her parents are coping with their loss, holding onto Harshita’s belongings as they seek answers regarding her death.
