A headteacher expressed gratitude after successfully raising funds to create Christmas hampers for each child at West Earlham Infant and Nursery School in Norwich. The initiative has provided a range of gifts, including books, toys, hygiene products, chocolates, coats, and scarves for every student.
The project was led by former teaching assistant Annie Jennings and personal trainer Lewis Wardale, who managed to raise over £4,000 to produce a total of 280 hampers. Jennings aimed to gather donations and support for children in need and approached Wardale to assist with the fundraising efforts. He noted his previous experiences with community fundraising and emphasized the willingness of local residents to contribute to meaningful causes.
Headteacher Jade Hunter remarked on the significant challenges posed by the cost of living, stating that it affects many families, especially those on fixed incomes. Initially, the goal was to provide hampers for a small number of families identified as needing support. However, as the fundraising progressed, they aimed to extend the offer to all students at the school.
Hunter articulated the importance of ensuring that every child and family would benefit from the hampers, underscoring the absence of stigma or strings attached to the initiative. This approach aimed to foster a sense of community and support among families during a challenging time. The overwhelming generosity demonstrated by the local community has been acknowledged, with the headteacher noting the profound impact of such collective goodwill.
