In November 2018, Steve Bannon, the former chief strategist for Donald Trump, was preparing to speak at the Oxford Union in the UK. His event was disrupted by a significant number of protesters, which led him to inform Jeffrey Epstein via email that the delays might prevent him from catching his flight. Epstein suggested a flight with Gulf Air that had a stop in Bahrain, to which Bannon responded appreciatively.
These messages were included in a recent release of over 20,000 pages of documents from Epstein’s estate, a release undertaken by the House Oversight Committee. Among the materials, there is a redacted iMessage chat that reportedly involved Bannon, identified through context related to dates and events. Epstein’s messages indicated that he was considering chartering a plane for Bannon and complimented him on his upcoming speech.
Bannon resigned from the White House in August 2017 after serving as a close adviser to Trump during his election campaign and initial presidency. He has acknowledged working on a film about Epstein prior to the latter’s death, claiming to have around 15 hours of footage and stating that the film will be released early next year.
The documents suggest a deeper connection between Bannon and Epstein. For instance, Epstein jokingly referred to himself as a “highly paid travel agent” for Bannon and frequently offered to ensure his comfort during travels.
On the day of his speech at the Oxford Union, Bannon communicated with Epstein about UK political matters, mentioning involvement with prominent political figures. Epstein expressed interest in Bannon’s observations regarding then-Prime Minister Theresa May’s political survival at that time.
As interest in Epstein’s connections to influential figures reignites, the US House of Representatives is set to vote on whether to make available all files related to Epstein’s investigation.
