Far-right activist Tommy Robinson expressed gratitude to Elon Musk after a judge dismissed a terrorism charge against him, indicating that Musk had financially supported his legal defense. Robinson stated, “Elon Musk, I’m forever grateful. If you didn’t step in and fund my legal fight I’d probably be in jail.”
Since leaving the Trump administration, Musk has actively engaged in politics, contrary to earlier indications that he would distance himself from such matters. His recent activities include influencing local elections through social media and participating in political discourse that many consider extreme. In various interviews, Musk has posited that there exists a “homeless industrial complex” undermining California and has made comments regarding immigration and societal collapse.
On the same day Robinson made his remarks, Musk shared claims about election fraud linked to undocumented immigrants and criticized mainstream media as biased. According to a Yale study, Musk’s political rhetoric has reportedly impacted Tesla’s vehicle sales significantly, attributing a loss of approximately one million sales to his political affiliations and actions.
Musk’s public image has also suffered, with his approval ratings reaching new lows in recent surveys, particularly among women in the U.S. Despite this, Tesla shareholders remain supportive, recently approving a substantial compensation package for him.
Musk has been associated with far-right leaders and movements, including appearances at rallies for anti-immigrant parties. He has also engaged with right-wing activists like Robinson, expressing views that some critics argue may incite violence. Following Musk’s comments, UK officials condemned his language as threatening and incendiary.
Additionally, Musk has launched initiatives aimed at creating alternative online platforms that reflect his political perspectives, including an AI-generated version of Wikipedia. However, content from these platforms has faced scrutiny for inaccuracies and potential biases, raising questions about the reliability of information produced under Musk’s influence.
