A tornado struck the city of Rio Bonito do Iguaçu in southern Brazil on Friday, resulting in significant damage to buildings and vehicles. As reported by authorities, the tornado has led to the deaths of at least six individuals and injured approximately 750 others.
In response to the disaster, the State of Paraná declared a state of calamity on Saturday, noting that around 80% of the city has suffered destruction. The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Paraná Fire Department, Jonas Emmanuel Benghi Pinto, described the situation in Rio Bonito do Iguaçu as resembling a scene of war.
The extent of the damage raises questions about the recovery efforts and the support needed for the affected residents.
