Daniel Andreas San Diego, a suspected bomber on the FBI’s most wanted list, is set to appear in court this week to determine if he will be extradited to the United States. San Diego has been linked to animal rights extremist groups and is believed to be involved in a series of bombings in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2003.
The FBI has indicated that there were missed opportunities to capture San Diego prior to his disappearance. After a lengthy pursuit in 2003, authorities reportedly discovered what they suspected was a bomb-making facility in his abandoned vehicle after a 65-mile high-speed chase. San Diego was located last year in a remote cottage in north Wales, approximately 5,000 miles from the initial bombing sites.
With a bounty of $250,000 placed on him, he will face a five-day extradition hearing at Westminster Magistrates Court in London to address a federal arrest warrant in the U.S. He has been indicted on charges of maliciously damaging property using explosives. The bombings included two incidents at a biotechnology corporation in Emeryville and a subsequent explosion at a nutritional products company in Pleasanton, California. No injuries were reported in these attacks.
The Revolutionary Cells – Animal Liberation Brigade claimed responsibility for the bombings, targeting companies associated with animal testing. Former FBI agents expressed frustration over the decisions made during the investigation, indicating that they believed they had sufficient evidence to arrest San Diego before he vanished.
After years of tracking, the FBI and the UK’s National Crime Agency finally apprehended San Diego in November 2024. Authorities suspect he received assistance while evading capture. Following his arrest, he was transferred to a high-security prison in London and has not made statements regarding the charges against him.
