Court remands Kano TikToker over viral indecent video

A magistrate court in Kano has ordered the detention of popular TikToker Ashiru Idris, known as Mai Wushirya, at a correctional center for two weeks. This action follows allegations of posting indecent videos involving a dwarf woman on social media. The presiding Judge, Halima Wali of Court No. 7, made the ruling during a court session on Monday, pending further hearings.

Last week, Mai Wushirya was arrested by officials from the Kano State Censorship Board after videos featuring him in shirtless and controversial acts went viral. The board stated that these videos violated local laws prohibiting the production and circulation of obscene or sexually suggestive content.

During a media briefing, the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, confirmed that the court also mandated the appearance of the woman in the videos. Investigations suggest she may have fled to Zamfara State, and officials are working to locate her. The next court hearing is scheduled to occur after the two-week remand period.

The Kano State Government has increased efforts to regulate social media content, with various creators facing arrests and sanctions for material deemed immoral under state laws.
