In the Darnytski district, a five-story residential building collapsed, and a fire broke out in a high-rise building in the nearby Dnipro district. This escalation followed earlier drone attacks that had already resulted in over 100,000 homes in Ukraine being deprived of power, as noted by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, reported that one of the deceased was a 14-year-old girl, and at least five other children were injured in the strikes. He indicated that over 20 districts were under attack, with multiple structures, including a kindergarten, sustaining damage from the shelling.
As Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine approaches its third anniversary, conflict on the ground continues unabated. Recent diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire included discussions led by U.S. President Donald Trump, who met with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelensky in separate encounters. Zelensky has expressed support for a summit between Putin and himself, though he is also advocating for security guarantees from Western allies to mitigate future threats from Russia.
Additionally, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian representatives in New York, with ongoing communication with Russian officials stated as a part of current strategies. In remarks about possible peace negotiations, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has cautioned that surrendering Ukrainian territory to Russia could be a detrimental move.
