A memorial service for Charlie Kirk, a right-wing activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, is scheduled for September 21 at State Farm Stadium in Arizona, which has a capacity of over 60,000 attendees. The organization announced the event via social media, inviting the public to commemorate Kirk’s life and contributions.
Kirk, 31, was shot and killed during an open-air speaking event in Utah on September 12. The suspected shooter, 23-year-old Tyler Robinson, was apprehended by police after turning himself in the following day. President Donald Trump, Vice-President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are expected to attend the memorial. Rubio has expressed his intention to return from a trip to Israel to honor Kirk, describing him as a significant influence on young conservatives.
Arizona is notable for Kirk as it is the location of Turning Point USA’s headquarters and where he resided with his wife, Erika, and their two children. In her first public comments following her husband’s death, Erika Kirk addressed what she referred to as the “evil doers” implicated in the incident. She expressed a commitment to preserving her husband’s legacy, stating that they unintentionally ignited a passion for advocacy among others.
During the shooting, Kirk was leading a “Prove Me Wrong” debate at Utah Valley University and was responding to questions on topics including gun violence and transgender issues. Tyler Robinson is currently in custody at Utah County Jail without bail and is under observation for potential risks to himself or others. He is anticipated to make his first court appearance soon. In light of Kirk’s passing, Trump announced plans to posthumously honor him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
