General Motors (GM) has announced the integration of native Apple Music into the infotainment systems of select 2025 model year Cadillac and Chevrolet vehicles. This initiative aims to enhance the in-car user experience amidst the lack of popular mobile phone mirroring services like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in their vehicles.
Apple Music will be accessible in 2025 and newer Chevrolet and Cadillac models via an over-the-air software update. This update will be distributed through GM’s OnStar Basics package, which is included at no extra cost for eight years with all 2025 and newer vehicles. Eligible models for this feature include the 2025 and 2026 Cadillac CT5, the 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ, the 2026 Cadillac Vistiq, and the 2025 and 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV, Blazer EV, and Silverado EV, among others. Buick and GMC vehicles are expected to receive Apple Music support at a later date.
For Cadillac owners, Apple Music is highlighted as a leading provider of spatial audio through Dolby Atmos, with some models featuring sophisticated sound systems compatible with this technology. Notably, this integration allows users to begin streaming as soon as they enter the vehicle, eliminating the need to connect their smartphones for access to music. Additionally, users can manage their music selections using the vehicle’s voice assistant, promoting a hands-free experience.
GM has positioned the addition of native Apple Music as a way to expand the entertainment options available directly within their vehicles. This move comes as part of GM’s broader strategy to enhance its infotainment systems, which currently do not support traditional phone projection methods. Alongside Apple Music, GM will also introduce support for Apple Wallet and Digital Keys in upcoming updates.
