The experience involves navigating through various channels featuring live-action programming, including dramas and cooking shows, with the goal of understanding the alien culture.
As players flip through channels, they may notice connections between the different shows, along with a narrative that engages the viewer. Interaction is limited primarily to changing channels, adjusting the picture for clarity, and downloading “data packets” that update the content. For example, one data packet reveals that the alien characters are aware of the viewer’s presence, prompting them to modify their programming to better explain their culture, including aspects such as food, fashion, and language.
The aesthetic of Blippo Plus carries a low-budget, retrofuturistic vibe, featuring unusual programming such as a psychic weather network and a teen chat show called Boredome. Other offerings include a channel focused on “video cola,” showcasing close-up visuals of soda bubbles. Each segment is only a few minutes long and is played on a loop, allowing players to explore and catch every detail.
Despite the initial randomness of the content, the game gradually reveals a coherent narrative as players pay closer attention, providing a sense of satisfaction in piecing together the storyline. Blippo Plus is currently available on the Nintendo Switch and Steam.
