Ayaneo’s first Android phone looks like a return of the Xperia Play

Ayaneo, a manufacturer known for retro gaming handhelds, has unveiled the design of its first Android phone, the Pocket Play. The device has been teased since August and draws inspiration from the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, which was released in 2011.

The Pocket Play features a sliding screen that reveals a complete set of inset physical controls, including a D-pad, ABXY buttons, and two circular touch pads. Additionally, it includes dual sets of shoulder buttons located on the back of the phone. However, the device does not appear to include a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Details about the Pocket Play remain limited. It is confirmed to launch “soon,” but its Kickstarter campaign page does not disclose specific technical specifications.

This device is the second homage to the Xperia Play released this year, following Anbernic’s RG Slide. The Pocket Play is designed to be a sleeker alternative to the RG Slide, with the potential to serve as a primary phone in addition to gaming functionality. It is anticipated that the pricing will be considerably higher than the RG Slide, which retails for $189.
