Australian politician Bob Katter raised eyebrows earlier this week when he gestured aggressively at a journalist during a press conference outside the Queensland state parliament in Brisbane. This incident, which has gained significant attention on social media, occurred as Katter, the independent MP for Kennedy, expressed backing for the upcoming March for Australia, an anti-immigration rally scheduled for this weekend.

During the press conference, Katter, who is 80 years old, held an Australian flag while calling for the deportation of individuals he claimed displayed “anti-Australian sentiments” at recent pro-Palestine protests. He stated, “If you have anti-Australian sentiments, then get the hell out of my country,” warning that those who disrespect the flag would be noted.

The tense exchange escalated when Channel 9 Queensland reporter Josh Bavas referenced Katter’s Lebanese heritage. Katter responded sharply, telling the reporter not to speak that way and asserting that he had reacted violently in similar situations in the past. He labeled Bavas a “racist” for questioning his Australian identity, emphasizing his family’s long history in the country.

Nine Entertainment, the parent company of Channel 9, announced they were contemplating legal action against Katter and requested an apology, according to a report by The Guardian.
