Apple has introduced a new case for the iPhone 17 Pro, named TechWoven, following the discontinuation of its FineWoven material. The FineWoven cases, launched in 2023 as a sustainable alternative to leather, faced criticism for being easily scratched and showing signs of wear quickly. In light of this feedback, Apple appears to have shifted focus from FineWoven, although some FineWoven products, like a bright orange MagSafe wallet, are still available.
The TechWoven case is priced at $59 and is made from 100 percent recycled polyester. This new material is claimed to be more rugged and less susceptible to scratches compared to its predecessor. Users have reported that the case can withstand everyday wear without showing immediate damage. For instance, a test involving typical items like house keys resulted in minimal scratches that were easy to buff out.
This case is designed specifically for the iPhone 17 Pro and does not accommodate models like the regular iPhone 17 or the Air. Its design aligns with the more utilitarian approach of the iPhone 17 Pro, whose emphasis appears to be on functionality rather than on aesthetics. This focus on durability may appeal to users who prioritize practicality over elegance.
As Apple moves forward, it remains to be seen how the TechWoven case will be received in comparison to other cases in the market and whether it reflects a sustained shift in Apple’s approach to materials and design.
