Apple has removed the iPhone torrenting application, iTorrent, from the AltStore PAL, an alternative iOS marketplace in the European Union. This action illustrates Apple’s ability to manage applications that are not available on its official App Store. The developer of iTorrent, Daniil Vinogradov, informed TorrentFreak that Apple has revoked his distribution rights for publishing apps in alternative iOS stores, indicating that the removal is not linked specifically to AltStore PAL.
Vinogradov stated on iTorrent’s GitHub page that Apple removed the Alternative Distribution functionality from iTorrent’s Developer Portal without prior notice. He noted that Apple has not provided any explanation for this decision, and the revocation occurred at the level of the Apple Developer Account. The situation is currently being examined by AltStore PAL.
Although Apple prohibits torrent applications from its own iOS store, the EU’s Digital Markets Act has granted iPhone users in the bloc the ability to install apps from third-party app stores that are not directly overseen by Apple. iTorrent was incorporated into AltStore PAL in July of the previous year, raising questions about the timing of this recent action by Apple.
