Amazon is building Alexa Plus into its Music app

Amazon has launched Alexa Plus, integrating new AI capabilities into its Music streaming service. Beginning today, customers participating in the Alexa Plus Early Access beta can utilize the generative AI assistant within the Amazon Music app on iOS and Android. This feature is available across all subscription tiers, enabling users to seek obscure information or receive complex music recommendations.

The Alexa Plus integration is designed to assist users in locating songs based on partial lyrics or identifying tracks featured in specific shows. Additionally, it can provide details regarding chart positions, festival lineups, and interpretations of song lyrics. Users can request music suggestions based on particular time periods, moods, artists, and instruments while also excluding genres or artists they prefer not to include. For instance, a user might request ’90s pop music from artists like Madonna while excluding boy bands.

According to Amazon’s announcement, customers can explore genres more deeply, discover artist influences and discographies, track the origins of samples from their favorite songs, and inquire about the meanings of specific tracks. The AI assistant aims to connect various music-related dots, even when user queries are vague.

The rollout of these features raises questions about the impact of AI on music consumption and the user experience in streaming services.
