Alien is coming back to Earth for a second season

FX has officially confirmed the renewal of the series Alien: Earth for a second season, following the premiere of its first season finale over a month ago. While a specific release date for the upcoming season has yet to be announced, production is slated to begin next year.

Showrunner Noah Hawley will return to helm the series. The delay in the announcement may be linked to Hawley’s new ongoing deal with Disney, which could extend his work beyond FX, where he has also been involved with projects such as Fargo and Legion. Reports suggest that this deal may allow him to collaborate across various Disney networks and platforms.

In a statement regarding the renewal, Hawley expressed appreciation for FX’s support of creative storytelling, noting their encouragement to explore bold narratives. “I’m grateful to continue exploring the world of Alien: Earth alongside our partners, cast, and crew as we begin the next chapter,” he stated.

Production for the second season will shift from Thailand to London. The reasoning behind this change remains uncertain; it could be a practical decision or indicative of a narrative shift away from the show’s current setting on the island home of its corporation, Prodigy. Furthermore, Alien: Earth is not the only project in development related to the Alien franchise, as a sequel to the upcoming film Romulus is also in the pipeline.
