In the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, the Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, experienced a missile attack on October 8, 2025. According to Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Belgorod, three people were killed and at least nine others injured in the strike on the village of Maslova Pristan. Emergency responders are searching for possible victims who may be trapped under the rubble.
This incident marks the third consecutive day of attacks by Ukraine on the Belgorod region, which has resulted in widespread power outages and at least two additional fatalities in prior attacks. The Ukrainian government has not publicly commented on these specific incidents but has consistently targeted locations in Russia throughout the conflict.
In addition to the strikes in Belgorod, Russian military actions have caused power outages in several Ukrainian areas. The conflict escalated significantly following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted that Russia is intensifying its focus on targeting critical energy facilities in Ukraine, while Ukrainian forces have turned their attention to Russian oil refineries.
Recent attacks have resulted in damage to homes, vehicles, and power infrastructure across multiple districts in Belgorod. Gladkov reported incidents in nearby towns, including injuries from a rocket and drone strike in Moshchenoye. Videos verified by news sources have shown evidence of explosions and subsequent fires near local power installations.
Moreover, Ukraine’s military has increased its operations against Russian oil refineries, impacting fuel availability and prices within Russia. To date, at least 21 out of 38 major refineries have been hit since January 2025, contributing to fuel shortages in various regions.
Meanwhile, the Russian military continues its assault on Ukraine, which includes a recent barrage of drones and missiles that resulted in civilian casualties. President Zelensky has announced plans for new funding aimed at repairing damaged energy facilities and maintaining power supplies as winter approaches.
