According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is experimenting with a new version of Siri using an internal chatbot named Veritas. This test comes amid Apple’s challenges in adapting to advancements in artificial intelligence. The next iteration of Siri has faced multiple delays, and the initial release of Apple Intelligence garnered a lukewarm reception from users. Veritas is designed to facilitate rapid development and testing of new Siri functionalities, including capabilities for searching personal data and performing tasks within applications, such as photo editing.
Veritas shares characteristics with other chatbot applications, including ChatGPT and Gemini, allowing employees to input queries, engage in dialogue, and revisit past conversations for deeper exploration of topics. However, as of now, there are no plans for Apple to release Veritas to the general public, despite Gurman’s suggestion that this could be a missed opportunity. Instead, Apple appears inclined to depend on Google’s Gemini for its AI-driven search functionalities. This move raises questions about Apple’s strategy in the evolving AI landscape and its plans for Siri’s future capabilities.
