No, a Windows update probably didn’t brick your SSD

Microsoft Photos will soon auto-categorize your pictures

Microsoft is developing a feature aimed at enhancing photo organization within the Windows 11 Photos app. A forthcoming update for Windows 11 Insiders on Copilot Plus PCs will introduce an AI-driven capability that categorizes images into distinct folders based on content, specifically targeting receipts, screenshots, identity documents, and handwritten notes.

This feature is designed to automatically classify images according to their visual characteristics, allowing for effective sorting even when the textual content is in languages other than English. For instance, a photo of a Hungarian passport would be categorized appropriately under identity documents.

After the Photos app sorts the images, users will find the newly created folders displayed in the Categories section of the left navigation panel. Currently, the app supports the identification and classification of only a limited number of image types — screenshots, receipts, identity documents, and notes. Questions remain regarding the potential for customization, as expanding the categories to allow user-defined sorting for other types of images, such as pet photos or vacation pictures, could enhance usability.
