Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has initiated a “phased restart” of its operations, reporting that portions of its IT system are now functional. The company stated it is actively working to address a backlog of payments to suppliers and has increased its invoicing processing capacity.
Production lines have been halted since a cyber attack in August. This attack necessitated a shutdown of JLR’s IT networks and resulted in suspended factory operations, which are not expected to resume until next month at the earliest. Concerns regarding the impact of this shutdown are growing, particularly for suppliers, many of whom are small businesses that may face financial challenges.
On Thursday, JLR indicated that its recovery program is progressing and that the global parts logistics center is returning to full operational capacity. This center is responsible for supplying spare parts for vehicle servicing. Additionally, JLR noted that the financial system used for processing vehicle wholesales has been restored, allowing for faster sales and vehicle registrations, which is important for maintaining cash flow.
The company acknowledged the difficulties faced by all parties connected to JLR during this recovery phase. As the situation develops, it remains unclear how long it will take for full operational capacity to be restored and whether government intervention for suppliers will occur.
