Twenty injured in Yemen drone attack on Israel, rescuers and military say

In southern Israel, 20 individuals sustained injuries following a drone strike that the Israeli military attributed to a drone launched from Yemen. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that the drone targeted the town of Eilat, located on the Red Sea coast, and attempts were made to intercept it.

The Magen David Adom emergency medical service indicated that the injured were transported to Yoseftal Hospital, with two individuals suffering serious limb injuries. While Israeli media has characterized the incident as a Houthi attack, the Yemeni group has not officially taken responsibility for the action.

Israeli television stations aired live footage purportedly showing the drone strike and the affected area, featuring images of smoke rising from the site. In response to the incident, the IDF stated that troops and the Israel Police were deployed to Eilat after receiving reports of a UAV attack. They are currently involved in evacuating the area, and a helicopter has been sent to assist in transporting the wounded.

The military advised residents to remain in secure locations for ten minutes following an alert. If the Houthis indeed claim responsibility for this attack, it would stand as one of the most significant incidents they have launched in terms of casualties.

Notably, a previous Houthi drone attack in July 2024 resulted in one death and ten injuries in Tel Aviv when a drone struck an apartment building near the U.S. embassy branch office. Additionally, in early September, a Houthi drone attack on Ramon Airport, located just north of Eilat, left one person injured.
