Guernsey Electricity is organizing an event called the Powering Life for Less Show to assist residents in managing their energy costs during the winter months. This event will take place on a specified date at the St Pierre Park Hotel from 10:00 to 15:00 BST. The initiative aims to provide islanders with practical advice on reducing their overall home expenses, particularly related to energy usage.
Gareth Wordingham, a representative from Guernsey Electricity, mentioned that the event will feature tips on the efficient use of household appliances. He indicated that working with various partners would enable attendees to discover potential savings. Customer service advisers will be available at the event to assist individuals with their energy bills and answer any related questions.
Wordingham highlighted that nearly 90% of Guernsey residents utilize a two-rate meter, allowing them to take advantage of lower electricity rates during designated periods. By using electricity during these times, households can save over 50% on their energy costs. Additionally, he suggested that setting washing machines and dishwashers to eco mode can yield savings exceeding 35%.
Other resources at the event include The Repair Cafe, Guernsey Welfare Service, and the Little Green Energy Company, all of which aim to provide further assistance. Wordingham mentioned the importance of educating attendees on optimizing their immersion heaters to minimize unnecessary usage, ultimately contributing to cost savings. The focus of the event is on empowering islanders with knowledge to manage their energy consumption effectively.
