Ubiquiti has introduced a new line of storage solutions compatible with its UniFi networking devices, which currently include routers, switches, and security cameras. The new products, UNAS 2 and UNAS 4, are designed to resemble sleek wireless routers rather than traditional desktop network-attached storage (NAS) devices, distinguishing them from competitors like Synology and Ugreen.
The entry-level UNAS 2 is available for $199 in black or white and supports two 3.5-inch hard drives configured in RAID 1. Its design features an access panel on the underside, allowing users to insert drives while using a sliding locking mechanism to secure them in place. The device includes a 5 Gbps USB-C port for additional external storage and requires just one Ethernet cable to connect to a compatible switch that supports power over Ethernet (POE). For setups that do not support POE, a 60W POE adapter is provided.
The UNAS 2 also features a 1.45-inch screen displaying real-time performance and storage metrics. For users needing more storage, the UNAS 4 is set to ship later this year at a price of $379. It offers similar design elements and functionality as the UNAS 2 but allows for greater capacity, accommodating four 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch hard drives and two M.2 NVMe SSD drives. While Ubiquiti’s rack-mounted NAS solutions provide more capacity and RAID options, details on the RAID configurations supported by the UNAS 4 have not yet been disclosed, nor is it clear if it will also be limited to RAID 1 like the UNAS 2.
