Meta has announced enhancements to its Quest headset that aim to facilitate streaming movies and TV shows. During the recent Meta Connect keynote, the company introduced a new Horizon TV hub, which will provide access to various streaming applications, including Prime Video, Peacock, Twitch, and notably, Disney Plus, in conjunction with Hulu and ESPN.
The newly unveiled interface features content recommendations and a selection of streaming apps on the homepage. Users will see tabs that can switch between sections for movies, TV shows, immersive experiences, sports, music, and a personalized watchlist. However, it remains unclear whether the content displayed under these tabs will be drawn from all available platforms or limited to those the user subscribes to.
In conjunction with the launch of Horizon TV, Meta announced partnerships with Universal Pictures and Blumhouse. This collaboration enables users to experience films such as The Black Phone and M3GAN with 3D effects. This move mirrors Apple’s partnership with Disney, which provides 3D movie offerings on its Vision Pro headset.
Horizon TV currently supports Dolby Atmos surround sound technology. Meta has indicated plans to introduce Dolby Vision support later this year, enhancing the audio-visual experience for users.
