Wyze has introduced its first smart door lock, the Wyze Palm Lock, which utilizes palm recognition technology to unlock. The device is priced at $129.98, positioning it as a more affordable alternative to other similar products in the market, such as the Philips Smart Deadbolt priced at $359.99. In addition to palm recognition, the Palm Lock offers multiple unlocking options, including a physical key, a numerical code, or the Wyze mobile app, which can be particularly useful during winter when wearing gloves.
While the Palm Lock is more expensive than Wyze’s $80 Wyze Lock Bolt, it offers enhanced functionality. Its battery life is rated at up to six months, thanks to low-power millimeter wave radar that activates the lock only when nearby motion is detected. It features a primary removable battery that can be recharged indoors and a secondary battery that provides power for up to two weeks. If both batteries run out, an external power source can be connected via a USB-C port, allowing the lock to be accessed using an entry code.
Research has indicated that palm vein recognition is both secure and accurate compared to fingerprint readers, and the Palm Lock can save palm vein IDs for up to 50 users, as well as generate up to 50 unique access codes for guests. The device connects to Wi-Fi, enabling remote locking and unlocking via smartphone or voice commands through smart assistants like Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. For additional security measures, the lock includes a gyroscope to detect the door’s position and movement, with options to auto-lock once fully closed or to alert users if the door remains ajar for an extended period.
