Meta leaks its new smart glasses with a display

A recently unlisted video from Meta showcased new Ray-Ban branded smart glasses featuring a display, along with a wristband designed for control. The video, which has since been removed, also highlighted a new pair of wraparound “Sphaera” Oakley smart glasses that include a camera integrated into the design. This incident may indicate that Meta has unintentionally revealed significant announcements ahead of its upcoming Connect event.

The smart glasses depicted in the video bear branding indicating a potential name of “Meta Ray-Ban Display.” According to a clip from the video, the display is positioned in the right lens, allowing users to interact with Meta AI, navigate maps, translate text, and respond to messages using hand gestures facilitated by the wristband.

Earlier reports, such as one from CNBC, noted that the wristband associated with the project, codenamed “Hypernova,” would employ surface electromyography (sEMG) technology to interpret hand movements for device control. This suggests that the technology showcased in the clip may represent the innovation described in those earlier reports.

In addition to the Sphaera glasses, the video also hinted at the upcoming launch of a translucent version of the Oakley HSTN smart glasses, similar to the translucent Ray-Bans released last year.

Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, is scheduled to present a keynote during the Connect event at 8 PM ET on Wednesday, where these new products are expected to be officially introduced. Coverage of the keynote will be provided live by various media outlets.
