Bodycare, a health and beauty retail chain, has announced plans to close an additional 30 stores following its recent administration, which occurred on September 5. This development follows the immediate closure of 32 out of 147 locations, resulting in the loss of 450 jobs. The total number of staff affected by these closures now stands at 685.
The company’s administrators have stated that there is interest from multiple parties regarding the remaining 85 stores, which they hope to sell in order to secure future operations. The closures include 14 stores on Tuesday and an additional 16 stores set to shut on Thursday. The administrators cited operational costs and stock shortages as significant factors in the decision to cease trading at the full 115 stores that were retained following the administration declaration.
Before entering administration, Bodycare employed around 1,500 people and had faced challenges related to rising rents and operational expenses. Nick Holloway, managing director at Interpath and joint administrator, expressed gratitude for the professionalism shown by the Bodycare staff during this transition period and noted that discussions are ongoing with potential buyers.
Bodycare has a history dating back to its founding in Lancashire in 1970, known for its distinctive store layouts and a wide range of personal care products. The specific locations set to close this week encompass areas across England and Scotland, highlighting the widespread impact of the company’s financial struggles.
