Belarusian and Russian military forces are currently engaged in joint maneuvers approximately 45 miles (72 km) from Minsk, as part of the Zapad 2025 (West 2025) military exercises. The participating nations have characterized these operations as “purely defensive in nature.”
The timing of these drills coincides with heightened regional tensions, which include incidents of Russian drones entering NATO territory and the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
