Baseus has introduced a new dash cam, the PrimeTrip VD1 Pro, which is designed to capture incidents even when the vehicle is turned off. This model features both a rechargeable battery and a solar panel that powers the device, enabling it to monitor for motion or impacts for up to 14 days while parked without using the car’s battery.
The PrimeTrip VD1 Pro is available on Amazon for $169.99, with a promotional coupon reducing the price to $109.99 until October 1st. While it does not require hardwiring to the vehicle’s electrical system for installation, the system is not entirely wireless. During vehicle operation, the unit uses power from the car’s auxiliary outlet to continuously record using its 4K front camera, which has a 170-degree field of view. Additionally, a cable connects the main unit to a 1080p rear camera with a 120-degree field of view.
The solar panel is compact, similar in size to those seen on calculators, and is intended to extend the battery life rather than provide indefinite charging. The dash cam offers up to 14 days of standby monitoring. When it detects motion or an impact, it will activate to record 30-second clips from both the front and rear cameras, capturing up to 20 incidents or 40 clips stored on a 32GB microSD card, which is available for upgrade. Reduced battery life may occur in areas with limited lighting, such as underground garages.
Additional features of the VD1 Pro include continuous loop recording, which overwrites the oldest videos once the microSD card reaches capacity, and hands-free voice controls. The dash cam also connects to the Baseus mobile app through Wi-Fi 6, allowing users to download videos or update firmware wirelessly.
