AMD’s AI-powered FSR 4 upscaling is now available in most FSR 3.1 games

AMD has announced that its FSR 4 AI upscaling and frame-generation technology is now available for many games compatible with FSR 3.1 and DirectX 12, as detailed in the release notes for the new 25.9.1 driver. This marks a significant moment for AMD, as FSR 4 was first introduced alongside the RX 9000-series graphics cards in March.

FSR 4 aims to compete with Nvidia’s DLSS 4 and is described by AMD as a notable advancement over its predecessor, FSR 3. The technology utilizes machine learning algorithms to enhance low-resolution rendering by predicting and compensating for lost pixels. This process is intended to provide improved performance and clarity, with visuals that approach native resolution quality.

The latest driver release includes official support for FSR 4 across more than 85 game titles. In addition, users playing FSR 3.1 games have the option to enable FSR 4 by adjusting a setting in the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition application. According to AMD, this method allows the driver to replace the existing FSR 3.1 implementation with the updated FSR 4 technology.

This development adds context to AMD’s ongoing efforts to enhance gaming experiences through software improvements.
