Reach, the parent company of the Daily Mirror and Daily Express, has announced plans to eliminate over 300 positions as it shifts its focus towards video and artificial intelligence (AI) content. The organization, which also manages publications such as the Manchester Evening News, Birmingham Mail, and Liverpool Echo, communicated its intent to staff through an email detailing an increase in shared content across print platforms and a renewed emphasis on digital subscriptions.
The restructuring will result in 321 job cuts alongside the creation of 135 new roles within the firm. David Higgerson, Reach’s chief content officer, indicated that this initiative represents the most significant reorganization the company has ever undertaken. He emphasized the need for the publisher to adapt its operations and storytelling methods in response to evolving industry dynamics.
As part of this transformation, Reach intends to establish a “live news network.” This network would enable a single journalist to cover breaking news for multiple publications simultaneously, streamlining the reporting process. These changes reflect the company’s strategic response to the current media landscape and its attempts to align resources with future ambitions.
