Residents of Withernsea facing challenges related to the cost of living will have an opportunity to access free gifts and affordable food at a community event organized by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The Help for Households drop-in event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 25, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the local leisure center.
The event aims to provide information on saving money and staying warm during the forthcoming autumn and winter months. Attendees can seek advice on various support schemes designed to assist with heating expenses. Additionally, eligible households may receive help with loft and cavity wall insulation.
Available resources at the event include affordable produce for purchase, a giveaway of heated gilets, and free SIM cards with mobile data. Information regarding benefits that can help reduce household bills will also be provided.
Councillor Nigel Wilkinson, the cabinet member for finance and governance, noted that the council is aware of the ongoing struggles residents face due to the cost of living crisis and is committed to supporting those in need. He mentioned that the council has already facilitated over £3.8 million in benefits for local residents in the past year.
Those interested in the offerings of the drop-in event are encouraged to attend and explore the support for which they may qualify. Furthermore, residents who are unable to participate in the event can reach out to the council for additional information on available support schemes.
