However, both Microsoft and Phison assert they have not been able to replicate the issues reported by users.
Phison stated that it was informed of the situation on August 18 and subsequently initiated an investigation. By August 27, the company released a statement claiming that, after conducting over 2,200 test cycles totaling more than 4,500 hours, they were unable to reproduce the reported failures and had not received any reports from partners or customers indicating that their drives were affected.
Microsoft followed up with a statement indicating that their investigation found no connection between the August 2025 Windows security update and the hardship reported on social media.
The initial reports appear to be limited in scope, with a Japanese user on Twitter reportedly being among the first to raise concerns about the update bricking SSDs, although accompanying comments revealed minimal corroboration.
