Microsoft has announced the upcoming release of Windows 11, version 25H2, which shares features and enhancements with the earlier version, 24H2. However, the company has not provided detailed information regarding new user interface features or AI adjustments that may be included in this update.
Significant changes in version 25H2 include the removal of certain features, such as PowerShell 2.0 and the Windows Management Instrumentation command-line (WMIC). Additionally, for commercial customers, IT administrators will have the capability to remove selected pre-installed apps from the Microsoft Store through Group Policy or Mobile Device Management on Enterprise and Educational devices.
The update process is streamlined; users currently on version 24H2 will require only a single restart to transition to 25H2. This is possible due to Microsoft’s shared servicing branch, which allows new features introduced in prior updates to be activated through an enablement package.
Users interested in obtaining the update can do so by joining the Release Preview channel. They can navigate to the Windows Update section in the settings to install Windows 11, version 25H2 (Build 26200.5074) now.
While Microsoft has confirmed the update and its mechanics, questions remain regarding specific features that may be visible once the update is activated.
