TikTok is enhancing its direct messaging capabilities by introducing voice messages and image sharing options, set to roll out to all users in the coming weeks. This development aligns with trends where various social media platforms aim to strengthen their social interaction features. A spokesperson for TikTok, JaShel Jones, noted that direct messaging is only available to users aged 16 and older, meaning the new features will only be accessible to those accounts.
Users can now send voice messages, images, and videos up to one minute long through direct messaging. However, it is important to note that if a user presses and holds the microphone button to record a voice memo, the message will be sent automatically when the button is released. To avoid unintended messages, users can drag the button upward or to the side to cancel the recording before releasing it.
The platform limits users to sending a maximum of nine images or videos at a time, and both voice memos and videos must not exceed one minute in length. This update comes as TikTok continues to expand its features aimed at enhancing user interaction.
