In The Style founder has ‘no regrets’ about leaving

Adam Frisby, the founder of the online womenswear brand In The Style, reflected on his experience and departure from the company in a recent interview on the “We Need to Talk” podcast. Frisby established In The Style in 2013 with an initial investment of £1,000, and it later gained prominence when it was listed on the London Stock Exchange, valued at over £100 million in 2021.

However, In The Style faced significant challenges, leading to its delisting two years later and sale to an investor for £1.2 million. Recently, it was sold again to avoid administration. Frisby discussed the impact of the company’s struggles on his well-being, including receiving death threats and facing homophobic abuse. He noted that the decline in interest in fashion businesses post-Covid and rising operational costs, partly due to the war in Ukraine, contributed to the company’s difficulties. In 2023, In The Style reported losses of £8.4 million before being delisted.

Frisby also addressed a legal battle regarding allegations that he had appropriated the concept of In The Style from another entrepreneur. He received a legal notice shortly after the company’s IPO, which led to a High Court hearing while managing other company issues. He ultimately won the case.

After leaving his position as CEO in late 2023, Frisby announced his complete departure from In The Style in October 2024, acknowledging the strain the period had on his personal life. Despite the challenges faced, he stated that he has “no regrets” about his experiences and emphasized the long recovery process he underwent. He also mentioned that he and his partner are now expecting a child through surrogacy.
