Fi, a company specializing in pet technology, has introduced a new clip-on GPS tracker called the Fi Mini. This device is designed for small dogs and cats, weighing just 0.56 ounces (16 grams). It provides real-time escape alerts and live tracking through a compatible app, allowing pet owners to monitor their animals effectively.

The Fi Mini is available on a subscription basis for $129 per year, which is lower than the price of the company’s smart dog collar. This tracker can be easily attached to collars or harnesses ranging from 3/8 to 1 inch wide and is marketed as suitable for pets of all sizes. Its dimensions are 42mm in length and 30mm in width, making it slightly larger than an Apple AirTag. It is also lighter than the Cat Mini tracker offered by Tractive, a recent competitor that is shutting down its tracking platform after acquiring Whistle.

Once attached, the Fi Mini offers a battery life of up to three weeks, which can extend to three months when used with the Fi base that minimizes power consumption. It also features USB-C charging. The device holds an IP68 rating, ensuring it is resistant to dust and water immersion. It uses Verizon’s LTE-M cellular network for location sharing and tracking a pet’s walking history.

In addition to location tracking, the Fi Mini includes activity and sleep tracking capabilities similar to those of the smart collar. Upcoming features will involve AI-powered behavior detection, designed to alert owners of activities such as barking, scratching, eating, and drinking. Furthermore, an integration with Apple Watch is also in development, aligning it with the functionality of the Series 3 Plus smart collar.
