The new entry-level Kindle Colorsoft is $30 off for a limited time

Amazon’s new 16GB Kindle Colorsoft, released less than a month ago, is currently offered at a discounted price of $219.99, reflecting a $30 savings. This offer is available through major retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, and Target. A variant designed for children, known as the Colorsoft Kids, is priced at $239.99 and includes a 12-month subscription to Amazon Kids Plus, a two-year extended warranty, and a cover-style case, also with a $30 discount.

Both the Colorsoft and Colorsoft Kids feature a seven-inch color E Ink display, IPX8 waterproofing, and a battery life of up to eight weeks on a single charge. The Colorsoft is positioned as Amazon’s latest color e-reader, incorporating many features from the previous year’s Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition. The page turn speeds are comparable to those of the Signature Edition, and performance is notably effective for reading both monochrome and color books. However, it is reported that the resolution drops from 300ppi to 150ppi when displaying color content, which may affect the reading experience.

Users have found that while viewing PDFs in color works adequately through the Send to Kindle service, transferring documents via USB-C may result in loss of color. Notably, the entry-level Colorsoft model lacks some premium features found in the Signature Edition, such as wireless charging, an auto-adjusting front light, and it offers less storage at 16GB compared to the 32GB in the Signature Edition. There are claims regarding a longer battery life with the higher-end model, but testing has not yet been conducted on the Colorsoft’s battery performance over an extended period.
