A flight attendant for British Airways, Haden Pentecost, was discovered unresponsive and undressed in an onboard toilet during a flight from California to London, according to court proceedings. Fellow crew members described him as agitated and perspiring, leading to his removal from duties after failing to perform pre-flight safety checks.
Pentecost reportedly complained of stomach pains and requested to change his clothing before locking himself in the toilet. A colleague later entered the toilet to find him without clothes and unaware of his condition. She assisted him in changing before relocating him to an empty seat.
The flight’s captain spoke to Pentecost, and a health professional was summoned to assess his state. The court was informed that he displayed physical symptoms including dilated pupils and an accelerated heart rate, necessitating checks every 20 minutes until the flight landed at Heathrow Airport. Upon arrival, paramedics transported him to the hospital, where a blood test confirmed the presence of methamphetamine and amphetamine in his system.
Following these incidents, British Airways terminated Pentecost’s employment. He appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty to performing an aviation function while impaired by drugs. The 41-year-old, hailing from Basingstoke, received bail and is scheduled for sentencing at Isleworth Crown Court at a future date. British Airways has been contacted for further comment regarding the incident.
