The future of Starlink’s availability in Ukraine has raised concerns, particularly due to potential policy shifts from former President Donald Trump and reports that Elon Musk might reduce or eliminate Ukraine’s access to the service.
Currently, access to Starlink largely relies on a network of users and engineers, including a notable figure known as “Dr. Starlink,” who has played a key role in customizing and repairing the systems. Since the onset of the conflict, these individuals have repaired and modified over 15,000 terminals.
During a recent visit, volunteers expressed that they were not overly concerned about the possibility of losing Starlink access; their immediate challenges were more pressing. The ongoing threat posed by Russian aerial bombardments remains significant, with reports indicating that nighttime attacks may involve over 500 drones. Additionally, the specter of involuntary mobilization for military service adds to the daily uncertainty that many Ukrainians face.
