This change coincides with the announcement of Alexa Plus, Amazon’s revamped digital voice assistant, which was introduced at a launch event earlier this year.
When accessed, the Alexa.com interface appears similar to the chatbot within the Alexa app. Users logged into their Amazon accounts see a welcome screen prompting, “Hello [User], how can I help?” The interface includes a text box for user input, along with dropdown menus labeled Plan, Learn, Create, Shop, and Find. These menus feature prebuilt prompts that facilitate user interaction, enabling tasks like planning travel or shopping for products. A disclaimer highlighting that “Alexa may not always get it right” is also present.
The left-hand toolbar provides shortcuts to recent chat histories, smart home controls, calendars, to-do lists, reminders, and uploaded files. This expansion of functionality suggests that while many features remain consistent with existing Alexa capabilities, the web version allows for easier keyboard interaction and larger screen usage.
Users have noted the potential for the web interface to enhance their interaction with Alexa Plus, addressing some prior frustrations with the app. This development represents Amazon’s effort to integrate Alexa Plus into users’ daily workflows. The rollout of Alexa.com is currently limited, available only to users in an early access program requiring a Prime membership or a monthly subscription fee of $19.99.
Contextually, this enhancement in the Alexa suite signals Amazon’s intention to position Alexa as a competitive AI assistant alongside other services like ChatGPT and Claude, marking a significant platform evolution.
