Team Cherry has announced that a free expansion for Hollow Knight: Silksong, titled Sea of Sorrow, will be released in 2026. This expansion is described as the “first big expansion” for the game and will include new areas, bosses, tools, and other features. According to the developers, this new content will follow the character Hornet in a nautically themed adventure. Further details about the expansion will be revealed closer to its release date.
Hollow Knight: Silksong has reportedly sold over 7 million copies, with millions more players accessing it through Xbox Game Pass.
In addition to the expansion, the original Hollow Knight game is also set to receive an update. Team Cherry is developing a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, which will feature all updates and enhancements that Silksong received, including high frame-rate modes, increased resolutions, and additional graphical effects. Players who already own the game on the Switch platform will receive this update at no extra cost when it becomes available in 2026.
Ahead of these launches, Team Cherry plans to update all versions of the original Hollow Knight for current gaming platforms, addressing bugs and adding new features. These improvements will introduce full support for 16:10 and 21:9 aspect ratios, which will benefit players using Steam Decks or ultrawide monitors. Additionally, PC players can test the upcoming updates in a public beta.
