Sektori is a twin-stick shooter game developed by Kimmo Lahtinen, a former employee of Housemarque, known for the game Returnal. In this game, players control a small ship that must navigate through enemy waves to collect upgrades that enhance survival chances. Players begin a campaign run with a small ship and two primary attack methods: an infinite laser gun and a forward surge attack with a cooldown. Enemy formations are represented by polygonal shapes that change from outlines to solid threats. If players are hit, they lose one of their initial three shields. As adversaries are defeated, they drop “glimmer,” collectible triangles that lead to potential upgrades.
The upgrade system is pivotal to gameplay. An upgrade list on the screen displays various options such as speed, strikes, shields, and weapon enhancements. Collecting tokens advances the upgrade tier, but acquiring an upgrade resets the tokens. Players must make strategic decisions under pressure, weighing whether to opt for easily attainable enhancements or risk it for higher-level upgrades. Only five additional shields can be obtained via tokens during a playthrough, prompting crucial choices about survival.
Players encounter “evolver tokens,” leading to substantial upgrades like companion drones or new weapon capabilities. The game arena itself is dynamic, shrinking and evolving, with areas becoming inaccessible, resulting in immediate game termination if players are caught in those zones. After several encounters, including boss battles, players who succeed through five levels win the run.
